This master index contains
all of the surnames and many
of the more unusual first names to be found in the parish register
transcriptions of
Clwyd (Denbighshire and Flintshire in North Wales). The transcriptions
currently included are listed on
my 'KEY' page - link above at top left. The Index of Welsh Wills proved
at
Chester 1545-1858 is also included and, where relevant, extracts
from some National
Commercial Directories and reference books. The
general intention is to indicate in which parish any of the
names
may be found. |
The original parish registers
were transcribed and indexed by volunteer members of
Clwyd Family History Society. The resulting transcriptions
published and are for sale by the Society
and GenFair. Appreciation for any help found on this website could be shown by becoming a paid up member of Clwyd FHS or buying some of their publications. Experts may not always agree with the 'umbrella' name under which I have placed some of the entries, but I feel it is more important to be able to identify the parish register(s) for the name in which you are interested. References are cross-indexed where it may be helpful, and here and there, for added interest, are place names and the meaning of a name. Occasionally there may be more information available in the original records or in Clwyd FHS transcriptions than is shown in the indices. If you have looked through the KEY page recently you may have noticed the appearance of several extra reference numbers e.g. 50, 60, 70, 80, etc. These refer to extra indices which I have compiled over the years, mostly relating to some of Pigot and Co's National Commercial Directories which list Merchants, Bankers, Professional Gentlemen, Manufacturers and Traders. I am happy to do look-ups in any of the transcriptions and directories listed on the KEY page. It is my sincere hope that these pages, which have been added to almost every day since February 2007, will become a regularly used tool to aid research in the Clwyd area, and my grateful thanks must go to my 'technical adviser', my son Duncan, without whom the website may never have become airborne! |
